To develop a commercial framework, based on mindful consideration of trade, customer, market and trends, to drive and support the product development process. Thus ensuring the category delivers to the business objectives of profit, excellent quality, availability and market share growth.
Job description
· Manage the end to end product development process milestones, timelines, category reviews and include key stakeholders at each point.
· Align commercial framework with planning & forecasting for category/ranges/products
· Co-create profitable & sustainable Category and Supplier strategies
· Build and manage Supplier base to maintain unique & exclusive partnerships & agreements
· Develop and implement pricing strategies
· Drive E2E value chain initiatives to effectively manage product/range costs.
· Drive effective integration of the matrix team
· Manage financial indicators
· Liaise with marketing, sales management, space planning & trade planning to effectively drive the growth of the category
· Ability to actively review factors influencing trade ie; market share, local & international trends, economic climate, competitor activity & changes to customer shopping habits, and translate into strategy.
Minimum requirements
· B.Com or other relevant commercial degree
· Commercial skills & experience within a retail, FMCG environment or bakery industry experience – knowledge of store operations, customer profiles, locations & competitors
· Minimum of 5 years buying experience in the perishable industry would be advantageous
· Proven ability to co-ordinate and deliver the category operating plan
· Proven sourcing and supplier management experience.
· Strong negotiation and financial management skills
· Proactive & Innovative with a continuous improvement mindset
· Proven leadership & people management skills, as well as the ability to coach and mentor junior team members.
· Proven ability to deliver the category financial indicators
· Customer and retail orientation - business acumen; commercial awareness; good judgment; emotional resilience
· Team player with understanding of diversity
· Good communication skills, both written and verbal
· Entrepreneurial – ability to initiate and co-create innovative and viable business plans
· Knowledge and understanding of Supply Chain concepts, processes and systems
